Ellis & David Koelewijn
We believe that we are naturally disciplining people through living and working together. We have good conversations, live the Gospel and act to its norms and values.
Ellis Koelewijn works in Schwerin, in the northeast of Germany. She lives in a disadvantaged area, where together with a team she works with children from disadvantaged homes and to pioneer a church plant, for example through street and family parties.
"After trying different things, we as a team have discovered two concepts that click with the people here; the so-called party on the street "Kepler Open Air" as well as the family party "Plattenpraise". These events are held on a monthly basis. But even these events were too few for the people here; they have a lot of time and talents to give because most of them have no job. That's why we bought the former Post office in 2016 to rebuild it to the so-called Patchwork Center; together with the team, the neighbours and a few professionals."
"We believe that we are disciplining people naturally through living and working together. We have good conversations, live the Gospel and act to its norms and values. For example, during the renovation of the post office, one rule was that if you felt irritated about someone, you would just say it and not gossip about that person. We see that practically living out the Gospel and hanging around with people work! People, in this spiritual dead area where many never thought about a god, are slowly starting to think about Jesus, the Bible and God."
